Three candleholders with a chessboard pattern, each in a different height and colour: black, red and green. Together they form a small still life on the table or mantelpiece, and with three candles at different heights you get a lively play of light.
The candleholders belong to Les Objets Mouleversants, a collection Wouters & Hendrix designed for Serax. In it, the Antwerp duo explored the boundary between design and art. The Chessboard candleholders are a tribute to Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp, two artists who loved chess, and a nod to surrealism.
Each candleholder is earthenware and hand-painted, so the pattern is never perfectly crisp. Use them together as a set or spread them along a long table. A gift for anyone who loves art, chess or simply a table with a story.
